Day 2 - 337 miles, Lillooet, BC to Kelowna, BC

Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3

Leaving Lillooet in the morning. Had never seen soft ice cream in more than a couple of flavors. Too early for ice cream though. Northward!

Lillooet in the morning light.

Stopped for camera batteries at a gas station on Rte. 99 east of Lillooet and saw this odd sign. Note the burn mark at the bottom. The guy at the gas station didn't have any AA batteries on the shelf so he pulled some out from behind the counter and said I could have 2 of those for free. What a nice guy.

Another view of Rte. 99 east of Lillooet.

Rte. 99 northeast-bound.

A lake along side Rte. 99.

A lake along side Rte. 99.

What appeared to be a mine and cement factor somewhere NE of Lillooet.

The cement factory.

On either Rte. 97 heading north to Green Lake, or possibly on the side road off Rte. 97 leading to Green Lake. This was one of many alkaline lakes. It was pretty early on a cold morning and at first I thought this was ice.

Approaching Green Lake. I had to use my 2 gallon spare can of gas close to this location. Went around the south side of the lake by mistake and realized I wouldn't be able to make it to my next gas stop at Lone Butte, and I didn't want to backtrack to the town of 77 Mile House. While filling with the spare, a couple of riders passed me and one yelled "You OK?". I appreciated that being in such a remote location.

Green Lake. The scenery was very different here, mainly Aspen trees and grassy fields. It reminded me of parts of Norway that I've seen. The elevation here was pretty high, and it was pretty chilly. I suspect this place really shuts down in the winter.

Houses on Green Lake.

Roadside aspen trees.

The Vulcan with Aspens and Green Lake.

Very nice pavement on the road around Green Lake.

This is the namesake butte for Lone Butte where I filled up the Vulcan and my now-empty 2 gallon spare gas can. Met up with the rider who asked if I was OK a few miles back and thanked him. Nice guy.

Horse Lake, just north of Lone Butte.

The long, steep grade down into Little Fort. There were four runaway truck ramps on this grade!

Runaway truck ramp on the right up a head.

I'd been fantasizing about a beer somewhere lakeside around Salmon Arm for miles. This is in the quaint hamlet of Sorrento.

A view of the lake near Salmon Arm. This was a big lake.

Lakeside.

Perfect, new pavement on the backroad between Salmon Arm and Spallumcheen.

Houses at the base of a big cliff near Spallumcheen.

Lightly travelled roads here, late afternoon.

Bucolic farmlands on the west side road of Okanogan Lake heading south towards Kelowna.

It was hay harvest time.

Some nice curves.

Okanogan Lake, getting close to Kelowna.

The road on the west side of Lake Okanagon got pretty sport bikey with plenty of good twisties approaching Kelowna.

My humble lodging in Kelowna.
