Hell's Canyon Motorcycle Trip, September 2007

Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3

Up early the next day (days are short this time of year), and after dodging some deer while exploring twisties on 395 south out of John Day, headed east on 26 over the moutains east of Prarie City. Golden Tamarak trees lined the roadside. Very pretty, especially in the fog/clouds at the pass.

Over the pass it was sunny. Great for doing DOOLEY MOUNTAIN (Rte. 245). This is one of the best roads in the state for back to back twisties up and over a mountain. If you're ever in the area...

Heading east on Rte. 86 out of Baker City. Nice sweeper road through plenty of canyons along a river. Again, no traffic.

Looking down into the farm valley around Halfway, OR. Now within 20 miles of Hell's canyon.

Looking down into Hell's canyon from the west rim. It was big.

The park road leading to the lookout was total hoot. Back to back curves.

Nice rock formation on National Forest Road 39 between Oxbow and Joseph. This is a GREAT road. Beautiful. Twisty. No traffic.

A view of the Wallowa mountains from downtown Joseph. They're so close, you feel like you're in the Alps here.

I think this was coming into the town of Elgin, on Rte. 82, east of Enterprise.

Back in the Condon/Wasco area, headed towards the Gorge.

They need a little maintenance on the roadsides here.

Wind farm near Condon.
