Quincy

My friend Garret, formerly from Bainbridge Island, WA, retired to Quincy, WA. His house sits at the edge of basalt cliffs overlooking the Columbia River to the west. It's beautiful their. He's a keen study of eastern Washinton's geology. We took a nice walk around his 10 acres, him showing me various geological highlights.

These rounded rocks are actually the worn tops of hexagonal basalt columns.

His property is adjacent to the Ancient Lakes. There are excellent hiking trails that go through this area. You can visit the lakes and traverse basalt plateaus with beautifully formed basalt columns. This picture looks up the Ancient Lakes canyon to the east.

Garret thought this hole might be a badger's.

We had a very pleasant evening on his terrace.

After spending the night at Garret's, rain was in the forecast for western Washington. So I high tailed it home on Interstate 90. Sure enough, rain started as I approached Snoqualmie Pass over the Cascades. I pulled over to put on my rain gear and a member of the Bandidos gang stopped next to me on his Harley with the 2 foot high ape hangers and said "Time for rain gear!". The rain fell in earnest the rest of the ride home as I battled Seattle/Tacoma traffic. Great trip overall.
