We got the "good" campsite for the second night after a bunch of sea kayakers left on the morning of the second day.
We decided to sail to the trail that leads out to the ocean. Trailhead was on the west side of the lake, and it's about a 4 mile hike to the ocean. Evan relaxing while we sailed to the trailhead.
Max at the helm with Paul.
Paul paddling as we approach the trailhead in shallow waters.
Paul paddling near the trailhead.
Evan paddling near the trailhead. The forest blocked the wind there, thus the paddling.
The boat tied to bushes during our hike.
The trailhead.
Evan balancing on a log on the hike to the ocean beach.
Evan with an old growth tree.
To the beach.
Frank in the salaal.
Arriving at the beach.
Blue skies to the east, clouds over the ocean. Max and Evan here.
Back to the boat.
Log bridges on the trail.
The wind was pretty strong by the time we got back to the island after the hike. Maybe 15 mph. I took the boat out by myself to see how it handled with one person. Then Frank and Paul took it out. Here they are.
On a reach, upwind from the island.
Frank at the helm.
Frank and Paul running downwind back to the island.
Getting ready to land.
A view north from our campsite.
On the island beach in the evening.
We brought a few toys, one of them being a frisbee.
Frank brought a practice kite-surf kite. We didn't have a lot of room to fly it.
Paul, Max, Evan and I slept on the beach the second night. The Milky Way was easily visible. There's no artificial source of light anywhere nearby.
