Dr. visit, guests, sushi and a haircut

I went to the doctor in La Ventana this morning. On our drive down in Guerro Negro I spilled some hot grease from my BBQ onto my left leg. At first there were some weird spots and splotches, but some turned into serious burns. I had been putting Neosporin on them after cleaning and dousing with hydrogen peroxide, but they just wouldn't heal. The skin was red too indicating possible infection. A friend insisted I see a doctor. First I went to the pharmacy and the lady sold me Amoxicillin and some burn cream. I didn't feel at ease with that so I went to the doctor who's office was next door. He was nice but spoke much less English than I expected. Shook his head sadly when I showed him the Amoxicillin. He prescribed a different antibiotic, sterile soap, sterile drying pads, and antiseptic spray, but said the burn cream was good. The bad news is I can't sail for 7 days. The seawater has bacteria. Oh well. There's other stuff to do. The good news is the doctor's office visit only cost about $13.

The pharmacy and stuff I bought there.

It's been very windy lately and the forecast is for more over the next couple of days. Not that much fun to sail in due to big gusts and lulls. My last session had 40 mph gusts. Survival sailing. Big swell, confused chop. Not a lot of fun. So maybe ok to take a break. Saw one blown out sail near the end of the day. Did get to try the smaller of my 2 new boards. It's great. Friend Tom calls it "an old man's short board". Dave has one too. I almost hit a sea turtle maybe 2 feet in diameter. He scurried down deeper as I overtook him. The strong winds blow dust everywhere. Impossible to keep staked down tarps clean until the calm in the evening. Dust inside the van too.

Blown out sail.

A woman named Barbara who I met at a beach campout near Neah Bay came to visit. Her van-builder son built her a nice Promaster van, and she drove it here with her friend Dee. They wondered whether to come since they're not into wind sports but were astonished at the board/kite/wing/foil activity on the water. Had margaritas by my van and walked to dinner. In the calm morning they got to see electric foil boards and neighbor Cody trying to paddle foil. Now they're off to do the loop around southern Baja before heading home by April.

From left to right, Dave, Dee and Barbara.

Dave got a haircut and a shave. He liked the gal at the barber shop.
