To the Bighorn mountains.

There were forest fires all over Idaho when I started this trip. I'd wanted to head up north of Boise to Lowman, Stanley and through the Sawtooth Mountains and Ketchum. Air quality maps I was checking showed horrible air there. So I went south. Southern Idaho's not the most scenic area to ride through. Curvy roads are few and far between. Go north if you can when you're there.

470 miles to Craters of the Moon, ID and then 322 miles to Cody, WY got me close to the Bighorns.

My campsite at Craters of the Moon campground. Stayed there a couple of years ago. Only $7.50 to camp with my Senior Discovery Pass. My trusty travel sized soprano ukulele on the picnic table.

Views from the east entrance to Yellowstone on the way to Cody, WY. I'd never been through that stretch. Great roads and scenery.

Cody, WY is a tourist town. Numerous western wear stores, restaurants, bars, etc. Even in late September it was hard to find a restaurant that had open tables or seats. Antelope Motel had a room for me for only $85. It was great. Walking distance to the center of town with all the touristy stuff. I did not buy a pair of cowboy boots.
