Schafer State Park in the spring.
The launch at the park, right next to our campsite. Evan checking gear.
The boys seem to be ready to go.
A log jam that we had to carry over. I think this was the place where evan tipped over, and it was the only place with a hazard like this.
This river is considered to be "pool and riffle", where you literally go from pool to riffle to pool, etc. Very pleasant, yet you need to pay attention.
Moving right along.
Max mainly used an old school fiberglass river kayak we borrowed from our friend Paul, though we did trade kayaks. When you stopped paddling it would immediately start to turn around so you faced up river. So you had to constantly correct the steering. I don't think we were sitting backwards in it.
Notice Max facing up river.
The shores were thick with brush and trees. Really pretty.
In the riffles.
Evan entering some riffles.
Pretty fun anticipating the riffles coming.
Happy days.
Evan slaloming through some snags.
I like the big cockpit opening on the blue kayak. You can put your feet up easily.
Woohoo!
Down the riffles.
Max under some brush on the side.
Nearing the bridge by the take out point.
Satsop nuclear cooling towers in the distance.
Max prepares for the ride back to the minivan.
Off he goes.
Back at camp that evening. Note the river just a few feet from our tents.
