28 degrees at the rest area 40 miles west of Twin Falls, ID in the morning.
Woke up to 28 degree temps in the rest area. The graywater that drained from my van was thoroughly frozen. After coffee and oatmeal headed east to Twin Falls, then the big right turn southbound. Nice getting back on a 2 lane road when I took 93 south. Crossed into Nevada on the way to Jackpot. Thank goodness pot's legal here compared to Idaho! Radio stations are funny on a trip like this. They change from big towns to God forsaken desolate wastelands:
BIG TOWN
Christian, country, Hispanic, NPR, classic rock, newer rock, hip hop

GOD FORSAKEN DESOLATE WASTELAND
NPR and any other talk radio is all about COVID, impeachment or articles 25 or 14 now. Plenty of hate/crazy radio out in the boonies. Scary. Arizona, where I'm headed is supposed to be tied with California for most new COVID cases. I'll be isolating in my van.
Crossed back into Pacific time zone so picked up a hour. Nevada is a scary place to drive through. It's actually a lot like Mexico in terms of lack of any signs of humanity. No buildings, roads or fences. Just austere, snowy landscapes. The elevation on 93 is high, sometimes above 7,000. It's the kind of place where you note mile markers or intersections in anticipation of telling a tow truck driver how to find you. It's the kind of place you change your dashboard readout from "Instant fuel economy" to "Range". Saw some wildlife bridges over highways.
When getting gas in Wells, I saw a brochure for the local public pool and was able to swim for 45 minutes! Hadn't done that since the pool in Poulsbo closed last spring. Wow that felt good.
The excellent public pool in Wells, NV.
Drove south through the Great Basin. Saw a little brown sign for it with the number 204. I though it showed how many miles until you reach it. I think instead it showed how many miles long it is. Seriously.
Drove a little longer than I wanted to but I had to get through Vegas. Got a pic of the lights of Vegas coming up. Spent the night in the town of Searchlight.
Light coming into Las Vegas from the north.
Another avacado burger again, this time with fried onions. Vegetable strainer used for toasting baguette slices on my cooktop burner.
These were really good.
